Penticton Community Centre celebrates Family Day
It’s almost here. I can’t think of a better long weekend name choice than “Family Day” but I’m a little biased. The lifetime benefits of raising a healthy, active and social family are hard to quantify, but over the last 30 years, I have seen the wonderful results here at the Community Centre and it is immeasurable.
When we were kids my dad would make an ice slide down our hill in the back yard and neighbours would say “but you are killing the lawn” and dad’s response was that he’s not growing a lawn, he is growing his children.
The Community Centre can help you celebrate “family” on Feb. 11 as we are open for a special holiday event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and that’s where the fun begins. Bring the family and get your “family day pass”, for only $25 ($15 for one child and one parent) to swim and enjoy the Family Fun Zone (Super Gymboree) with inflatables, games and other activities for all ages. We will also have a video gamer’s room, so you can challenge dad to Wii table tennis or virtual bowling, visit the craft area and in the afternoon after hours of being active, we have full length cartoon Hotel Transylvania in the theatre.
The movie is presented by the Queens Park PAC and we are hoping they will have a bit of a concession at movie time. Bring your lunches and your parents too, of course, as this is a family event. We are planning to set up extra lunch tables in the viewing lounge and a quiet pre-school area in the Childminding room.
The activities go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and you purchase your family pass on the day of the event. Just put on your wristband and float from each activity station, hosted by our amazing summer day camp leaders. Speaking of floating the pool and lazy river will be going the whole time. Why not make this your new family tradition and banish those winter blues. The pool with be open for regular drop-in between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. too, if you can’t make the whole day. For more information call us at 250-490-2426.
Let’s make Family Day a play day that your kids will remember as a highlight of the winter.
