Three Kindergarten classes at Wiltse Elementary School recently held a bake sale with all proceeds going to the Penticton Food Bank. The students raised an impressive $568.25.
Two representatives from the Salvation Army, including pastor Paul Trickett came to the school Wednesday, Feb. 28 to talk to the students about the impact of their act of kindness has on our community.
The funds mean even more this year, as the Penticton Salvation Army has seen an ‘explosion’ of new people in need.
Salvation Army pastor Paul Trickett has been serving communities for 23 years and he’s never seen things as dire as they are with the aftermath of COVID and skyrocketing food prices and inflation.
“I equate it to an explosion,” said Trickett in December 2023. “We are seeing family after family, all new faces from seniors, young couples to single parents needing our food bank.”
In an interview in December, Trickett said during these difficult times people need to look out for their neighbours, be kind to one another and do little things.
His ask for the new year is to not forget that the needs of those Salvation Army serves are 365 days a year, not just at Christmas.
