Bands brewing for a good time in Penticton at Fest-of-Ale

Two days packed with music varying from jazz to bluegrass to classic rock are ready to take the stage at the 17th annual Okanagan Fest-of-Ale.

“We tried to get a cross-section to make everyone happy. So a little bit from classic jazz, old-time rock and roll to more Top 10,” said Fest-of-Ale organizer Wayne Schmuck. “We have such an age group averaging from 25 to 55 years old so we have to present a little bit of everything.”

All of the bands are performing for free that evening then will be performing afterwards at local establishments. Schmuck said tickets for Fest-of-Ale are close to being sold out and are only available in advance.

On Friday night Get Bent Belly Dancing is from 4 to 5 p.m. followed by Zenith D. Wonderpants from 5 to 6 p.m. Penticton band Fluxx, who will be performing at the Copper Mug afterwards on both Friday and Saturday, is on stage from 6 to 7 p.m. Jump The Planet, who are also performing at Bar One afterwards on both nights) is on stage from 7 to 8 p.m. and Joes Garage will wrap things up on Friday night from 8 to 8:45 p.m. and then will head to the Barking Parrot for a performance.

On Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. the Thursday Night Jazz Band takes the stage first followed by Flashback from 1 to 2 p.m., the Dung Beatles from 2 to 3 p.m., Jump The Planet from 3 to 4 p.m., Joes Garage from 4 to 5 p.m. and Fluxx from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

Fluxx is a rock band that plays a mix of covers and originals that is currently working on a album. Jump the Planet is a modern rock band that just released a live three-song demo to internet audiences. Joes Garage is a Vancouver band that’s music is  described as a high energy dance party. Flashback is a dance band that play original and vintage rock and roll classic from the 60s to the 90s. The Thursday Night Jazz band is an 18-piece big band playing a variety of music styles from swing and latin to funk.
