Art of Warless funnels to gallery
How things have changed, stayed the same and what the future holds is the theme for a weekend exhibit at the Penticton Art gallery.
As part of The End of The World As We Know It exhibit, the Penticton Art Gallery and Vancouver Foundation invite the public to meet five individuals as they host a weekend that promises an educational glimpse behind the scenes of the talented and ambitious people in B.C. creating music and the art that goes with it. All of the weekend events are all-ages and entrance by donation.
The main visual component of the exhibition is a collection titled The Art of Warless. This consists of three artists, designers and printers whose collaboration is their original independent music project, Warless. Expect finished and framed fine art, screen prints and giclees, print proofs, films, drawings and process pieces.
Keith Leinweber is an illustrator and graphic designer that blurs the lines between corporate designer, cartoonist and lead guitarist. Rika is a vocalist, fine artist and graphic designer that has created art and posters seen around the province. Sage is a fine art reproducer, production screen printer and illustrator, as well as the drummer for Warless.
Friday evening will consist of DJ Nils of Beats Without Borders laying down world music for the first portion, Sage hand screen printing Mayan Calendar Doodle Art posters, from 9 to 11 p.m. Warless will perform and DJ Nils will finish of the night with a dance party until 1 a.m.
Warless consists of the three artists, designers and printers and Eric Lu (bass) taking the audiences ears from the Albertan countryside right to the B.C. West Coast with flavours of reggae, indie rock and a bit of country. Warless believes the power of music can create a better, more positive place for all.
DJ Nils has a knack for reading the energy of the room and has played at many festivals including Shambhala, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival and Komasket.
On Saturday, from 1 to 2 p.m. DJ Nils will lead a discussion on music and working in the music industry, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Warless graphic designers will talk about what design is, the role and lessons they have learned along the way. From 4 to 5 p.m. a workshop on poster printing will take place. On Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. a slideshow and discussion will take place about the three-day Towards Eden festival, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. a continuation on the design of Warless talk from the day before followed by a continuation of the poster printing workshop.
