A Keremeos RCMP officer tried his hand at search and rescue last Friday when he helped a hiker stuck on the mountainside.

Keremeos Cpl. Brian Evans said one of his officers received a call that a hiker was in danger on the mountain behind the McCurdy Ranch near Cawston.

“Const. Matthew Groen went out there and he saw the hiker in trouble. He was waving his arms looking for help when the officer attended so he hiked up to help the person out,” Evans said.

The hiker was local to the area and had hiked up the mountainside just fine but couldn’t figure out how to get back down.

“The man said he wasn’t injured but he could find a way down so he was panicking.”

The man was down off the mountain at around 10 a.m.
