Former Mountie charged with murder

A second degree murder charge has been laid against 56-year-old Keith Gregory Wiens in connection with the death of his common-law partner. Wiens appeared in Penticton Provincial Court Wednesday and has been remanded in custody.

Police were called to a home in the gated-community of Sandbridge in the 3300 block of South Main Street just after midnight Tuesday, where a 55-year-old woman had been fatally shot. Wiens was arrested at the home without incident.

It has been confirmed that Wiens is a former RCMP member, serving in the Okanagan in the 1990s.
