Penticton doctors join fight for new hospital tower
Local doctors are joining the fight to get a new tower built at Penticton Regional Hospital.
The Penticton Medical Society has scheduled an information session for next Wednesday, Feb. 13, at which doctors will explain the importance of the proposed $300-million expansion.
“Usually doctors are the ones helping their patients. But this time, we are hoping all of our patients will help the doctors,” society president Dr. David Paisley said in a press release.
“The proposed upgrade to Penticton Regional Hospital is long overdue, and delaying the project could have a significant impact on patient health and infection control. We hope as many people come out as possible to tell those in power that we need a patient care tower.”
Local politicians were told in January that if they want the B.C. government to fund the expansion project, doctors and members of the public will have to make their voices heard in Victoria.
Doctors spoke out publicly on the matter for the first time in December when Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid paid a visit to Penticton. Briefing material for her trip included a City of Penticton newsletter that called on residents to urge government to pony up for the project.
The information session goes Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.
A website has also been created to explain the need for the new tower.
