The Penticton Fire Department responded to a small fire in the alley outside the Three Gables liquor store on Martin Street early Thursday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding said they received the call just before 7 a.m. of a small fire located in the alley of 360 Martin St.

"A couch was fully involved behind the Three Gables Beer and Wine Store. The fire didn't do any damage to the building and it was extinguished quickly," said Spalding.

The cause of the fire was not determined and Spalding said it could have been anything from someone purposely setting it on fire to a smoldering cigarette butt that eventually ignited the couch into flames.
