Campfire ban rescinded
Today, Aug. 26, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the Kamloops Fire Centre have rescinded a campfire ban issued Aug. 15.
The Kamloops Fire Centre said, in a press release, recent precipitation throughout the region has decreased the risk of wildfires.
Nonetheless, category 2 and 3 open fires remain prohibited for the entire Kamloops Fire Centre. This prohibition includes: all open fires larger than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide; fires with a burn registration number; industrial burning; fireworks; sky lanterns; and burning barrels.
These prohibitions cover all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands, but do not apply within the boundaries of local governments that have forest fire prevention bylaws and are serviced by fire departments. Please check with local governments for any other restrictions before lighting a fire.
The RDOS encouraged residents to continue to restrict the size of their campfires to not larger than a half metre by a half metre and to have a shovel and water nearby to help extinguish the fire.
