Rock slide closes Highway 3

Emergency crews and RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services are advising motorists of a rock slide eight kilometers west of Standing Rock, between Keremeos and Hedley, B.C.

RCMP are reporting three vehicles were involved in the incident and one female was transported to hospital, but her injuries were not life threatening.

The slide, reported at 12:25pm, has closed Highway 3 in both directions. It is estimated to be 150 metres wide, including rocks of all shapes and sizes, including boulders the size of a truck, according to eyewitnesses.

It is unknown when the highway will be reopened.

Motoring public are asked to use an alternate route.   For all updates please visit the Drive BC website at www.drivebc.com
