The Okanagan region is home, at least part time, to over 300 species of birds.
According to Avibase, the world’s largest bird data base, that includes six species that are globally at risk and three types that were introduced.
Introduced species include the mute swan, ring-neck pheasant and the European starling.
The threatened or near threatened group includes the ivory gull, yellow-billed loon, snowy owl (vulnerable) burrowing owl and rusty blackbird.

According to Avibase, the list also includes species which are listed as rare or accidental.
Among those are the tufted and long-tailed duck, the yellow and black billed cuckoo bird.

Four species of humming birds and 14 varieties of gulls are also on the list of those than can be found here along with the American white pelican, two kinds of vultures and 13 owl species.
Sparrows make up one of the largest numbers of species, over 19 in total. There are two types of eagles and nearly a dozen hawk varieties.
