It was a wet Wednesday morning for two women after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off Highway 3 landing in the Similkameen River just outside of Keremeos.
The car left the roadway off a 15-foot embankment just before 7:30 a.m. Within minutes the vehicle was completely submerged in the river. The women were able to get out of the car before it became fully submerged and before emergency responders arrived on scene.
The women suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department and the RCMP attended.
This is the second time this summer a vehicle has left the roadway in that area about 10 kilometres west of Keremeos on a straightway near the iconic Red Bridge.
During the evening of Sunday, June 26 a silver car left the roadway in the same spot. The driver and a passenger from the Lower Mainland were able to get out of the vehicle and promptly left the scene. The next day the passenger called in the incident to police.
RCMP at the time said alcohol was suspected in the collision.
The vehicle was removed from the river two days later.
