Cleanup of sandbags and gabion boxes along Penticton’s Okanagan Lake will start next week.

Residents and tourists are advised Okanagan Lake beach remains closed and will be for awhile yet as equipment and workers remove the flood mitigation debris from the area. Skaha Lake Park is open.

“The removal of all works and debris will take a few weeks, however as soon as sections of the beach become clear, those areas will be reopened for public use,” said city engineer, Ian Chapman. “We thank beach users for their patience.”

A variety of flood prevention works were installed during the month of May to reduce the threat of high water and/or soil erosion.
