UPDATE: Dump truck crashes into ditch near Summerland

Update: 11:20 a.m.

Summerland RCMP say a dump truck accident on Highway 97 near Summerland on Thursday morning was caused when a truck tire blew.

Cpl. Chris Richardson of the Summerland RCMP detachment said the truck then pulled to the side, hitting the barricades and ending on its side in the ditch on the southbound side.

Police received the accident call around 8:45 a.m.

There were no injuries and no driving infractions in this accident.

A dump truck travelling south on Highway 97 near Summerland ended up on its side in a ditch on Thursday morning.

A witness at the scene said around 8:41 a.m. a motor vehicle incident took place between a tractor trailer and the dump truck causing a chain of events and a lot of debris on the road on the Summerland Hill. The dump truck hit the barricades and ended up on its side in the southbound ditch. Debris was seen all over the highway bringing traffic down to a single lane heading southbound.

It is believed there are no serious injuries. The Summerland Fire Department is on the scene to handle the traffic and a fuel spill from the dump truck in the ditch.
