UPDATE: Oyama fire under control

Blaze dealt with by Oyama fire department.

UPDATE: July 3, 10 a.m.

The B.C. Wildlife Service says a fire reported July 2 in Oyama is now under control.

The BCWS sent in a ground crew to help contain the blaze but the firefighting effort was led by the Oyama fire department.

“The fire fell within the (Oyama) fire department’s jurisdiction,” said BCWS spokesperson Max Birkner.

A fire is burning near Oyama, according to a nearby resident.

Pictures show smoke hovering near the community, though it’s not exactly clear where the source is located.

B.C. Wildfire Service has not yet responded to a request for comment.
