Fire crews quickly extinguished a blaze at a legal medical marijuana grow operation Wednesday morning.

Around 7:12 a.m. on June 1 Penticton Fire crews responded to MacCleave Avenue for a structure fire.

Penticton Fire Chief Larry Watkinson said the fire was started by a grow lamp turned on by an automatic timer igniting some debris in the grow-op.

Watkinson said crews were on scene quickly and the fire was extinguished causing minimal damage.

"The challenges are that when it's a grow operation like that we face some dangers for our firefighters because we have unknown situations where we have electrical hazards or a shoddy wiring bypass or other hazards in houses with a grow operation like that," Watkinson said.
