Just when you thought the fire season might be over.

A fire broke out on Fairview Road mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Jody Lucius, fire information officer at the Kamloops Fire Centre said the fire “grew pretty quickly,” and is now considered to be about five hectares in size.

Three air tankers and nine firefighters responded to the fire immediately.

Lucius said three firefighters will stay on scene to work the perimeter overnight.

“There’s no structures at risk. It is quite visible from the neighbourhood. It’s still considered an out-of-control fire and we’re working on it,” she said.

The fire is burning about six kilometres east of Cawston up the Fairview Road.

Cooler temperatures overnight are expected to help with firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
