A travel trailer behind businesses and residential units on Highway 97 caught on fire around 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Okanagan Falls volunteer fire department.

Firefighters said flames were shooting out the top of the structure, putting the neighbouring businesses — including a barber shop — at risk.

About 16 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze, including assistance from the Kaleden Fire Department, to help contain the fire which, according to Okanagan Falls volunteer fire department members, could have easily turned into a disaster. They said there was a lot of items surrounding the trailer including propane tanks, gas cans that could have made it worse.

Firefighters are currently in the mop-up stage. No injuries have been reported and the fire is under investigation.

More to come.
