Meetings will help shape future of Penticton bus service

BC Transit schedules series of open houses for late May and early June

Penticton residents are being invited to share their opinions on the city’s transit service at a series of open houses in late May and early June.

By attending a series of open houses or voting online on proposed changes, residents can help shape the future of the Penticton transit system.

BC Transit is hosting four open houses in Penticton: on May 29 at the Penticton Seniors Drop-in Centre, June 1 at the Penticton Public Library and June 2 at both the Downtown Community Market and at Cherry Lane shopping centre.

The open houses offer residents the chance to speak out on several proposed changes, including adding or adjusting core coverage and Sunday service, adding more handyDART service and modifying the night route.

This long weekend will see the introduction of one change that has already been made, the introduction of bus service on a holiday, allowing riders the chance to move around the city. The Lake to Lake route will be operating at a Sunday service level on May 21, between 9:19 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Victoria Day is the first of nine holidays that will have bus coverage, including  Canada Day, B.C. Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday.

If you are not able to attend one of the open houses, BC Transit welcomes comments from Penticton residents online at www.bctransit.com until June 8.
