Crews and residents in Kelowna fighting flooding problems are getting a bit of help, with word that levels in Mill Creek have gone down in the past 12 hours.
Mill Creek, along with other creeks in the Kelowna area, spilled their banks on Friday and had crews scrambling Saturday, dealing with flooding in several areas of the Central Okanagan.
While evacuation orders remain in effect for some 90 multi-family units, four single family homes, and one commercial property in Kelowna, Central Okanagan Emergency Operations says some levels are going down.
The Evacuation Order issued yesterday for Fintry Provincial Park remains in effect.

“Indications suggest that the level of Mill Creek has decreased over the past 12 hours, as have other creeks within the region. Some creeks remain high. The EOC will conduct continual monitoring of creek levels throughout the day,” stated CORD in an update Sunday morning.
All Evacuation Orders and Alerts in place last night remain in effect this morning. Details and specific addresses can be viewed on the Regional Emergency Program website map www.cordemergency.ca/map
The map also shows locations of sand and sandbags along with road closures due to flooding.
Priorities today for emergency crews are road and creek assesments, working with Fortis to determine re-energizing of buildings without power and ensuring sand and sand bags continue to be available to residents.
The Emergency Support Services Reception Centre located in the Salvation Army Church, 1480 Sutherland Avenue will open at 11 this morning. Those people on Evacuation Order should report and register. Due to a shortage of hotel space in the area, evacuees are encouraged to try and find temporary accommodation with family and friends.
Local states of emergency have been declared for the City of Kelowna, the City of West Kelowna and for the Fintry Delta in the Regional District of Central Okanagan to address flooding.

The Boil Water Advisory for Westbank First Nation IR#9 continues.
People and pets should stay back from creek banks which can be extremely slippery and can be subject to erosion. Be aware that water levels may unexpectedly rise. Boaters should also watch for floating debis flowing into area lakes from tributaries.
