Penticton RCMP officer intends to plead guilty in vehicle fatality

Const. Ace Stewart is scheduled for an intended guilty plea hearing in January 2017.

Const. Ace Stewart was charged on Sept. 9 with driving without due care and attention contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act.

Stewart was charged after the vehicle he was operating allegedly struck and killed a five-year-old Penticton child walking across the intersection of Highway 97 and Green Mountain Road.

Stewart, a veteran member of the RCMP with more than 20 years of service in the force, is scheduled for an intended guilty plea hearing in Penticton Provincial Court on Jan. 23.

The chief civilian director of the Independent Investigation Office (IIO), B.C.’s RCMP watchdog, reported in a press release Aug. 11 that a report was forwarded to Crown counsel for the consideration of charges.
