The Penticton RCMP, in conjunction with ICBC, are promoting safe boating and encouraging people to get a safe ride home after boating.

The RCMP boat will be on the lakes this summer helping to ensure people stay safe while enjoying water sports. All types of watercraft may be checked to ensure they are adhering to all laws and regulations, and also to help educate the public.

In addition, police are reminding boaters that drinking alcohol on a boat is the same as drinking and driving, and is not acceptable in either situation.

Here are a few simple safety tips to remember:

•Wear a lifejacket

•Don’t drink and boat

•Take a boating course

•Be prepared — both you and your vessel
