Penticton’s popular annual summer block party, Ellis on the Rise, is back on May 24.

“Ellis on the Rise brings a special Ellis Street vibe to our first big street party that launches us into summer,” said Lynn Allin, executive director of the Downtown Penticton Association, in a news release.“The Ellis Street businesses are really engaged in the planning and execution of the event and their collective energy is wonderful.”

While some final touches are still underway, the main attractions for the May 24 event (from 5 to 8 p.m.) are set with activities for all ages. There’ll be a chalk-art zone, face painting, tattoos, a colouring station, cupcake decorating and a tent of giveaways while they last coming from Telus. For hungry folks, there will be food trucks and the Penticton Fire Department is hosting a barbecue to raise funds for their charity.

“We’ve also snagged a brand-new inflatable attraction for older kids and adults: jousting,” said Allin. “With foam-tipped lances, jousting promises to be terrific fun for participants. Spectators will have a hoot, too.”

The climbing mountain and bouncy castle inflatables are coming back this year as well.

The event will feature a great line up of musicians, including Ari Neufeld, Will Schlackl and Joshua Smith. Add in the beverage garden fundraiser for Hoodoo Adventures featuring selections from Cannery Brewing and Mile Zero Wine Bar. Dancing in the street is bound to happen.

Ellis Street—from Westminster Avenue East to the roundabout—will be closed from 2 to 9 p.m., so residents can safely stroll along the block and set up lawn chairs to enjoy the musical entertainment and other event features.

“We look forward to seeing everyone for a fabulous event that celebrates the arrival of summer in Penticton,” said Allin.
