The Princeton fire is 100 per cent contained as of Saturday morning, according to Wildfire BC.

“The big news is that we have reached one hundred per cent containment and the fire is now being held,” said Jody Lucius, information officer with the Kamloops Fire Center in an interview with The Spotlight.

“That means that give the current weather and suppression activity we do not expect further growth.”

The fire – which sparked July 7 – measures at 3,278 hectares.

“There is still lots of work to be done and you will still see the team working out there for some time but it’s positive news,” said Lucius.

She said today crews are focusing on mopping up efforts up to 200 feet within the fire’s perimeter concentrating in the areas of Highway 5A and Summers Creek Road.

There are 163 firefighters deployed to the Princeton fire today.
