Kamloops RCMP are investigating a suspicious house fire from April 20.

An officer on patrol spotted smoke coming from a home in the 1300 block of Tranquille Road, just before 3 a.m.

“When the officer initially observed the smoke, he quickly called for Kamloops Fire Department (KFD) and backup members, then banged on the residence’s doors and windows, announcing that there was a fire while feeling its heat through a closed door,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

Fire crews arrived on scene shortly after and managed to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters confirmed the house had been unoccupied.

Evelyn said security footage obtained in the investigation shows two people on bikes in the area around the time the fire started, who left in the direction of McArthur Island.

Police are asking any witnesses of the event or anyone with information or video related to the incident to contact Kamloops RMCP with file number 2024-11489.

The motive behind the suspected arson, and if the blaze is related to other suspicious fires in the North Shore area, is under investigation.
