Recruiting gets underway for Official Community Plan Task Force
The City of Penticton is accepting applications for volunteers with the Official Community Plan Task Force.
This 17-member committee will help guide the 18-month process to create a new OCP with a vision for how Penticton will grow and develop over the next three decades.
The city is looking for citizens from all walks of life with knowledge or an interest in a broad range of areas: agriculture and food systems, architecture, land use planning, environmental issues, heritage, arts and culture, housing, parks and recreation, sports, leisure activities, youth/student, seniors, transportation and infrastructure.
“This process is going to be a celebration of what is great about this community and the opportunities to make it even better,” said Ben Johnson, special projects manager, development services. ”We’re looking forward to sharing ideas and having a lot of meaningful dialogue about what we want Penticton to look like in the future.”
At a minimum, task force members will meet monthly in the evening. But citizens do not need to be on the task force to contribute to the plan. The city plans on offering many opportunities for the community to contribute and follow the process.
The deadline for applications is February 17. You can find the terms of reference and application form at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca or at Penticton.ca/committees. Application forms are also available at City Hall. Council is expected to announce the task force in March.
