Restaurant owner charged in Keremeos

A Keremeos man has been charged with two counts of attempted arson and one count of assault and uttering threats at the Riverbed Bistro.

A Keremeos man has been charged with two counts of attempted arson and one count of assault and uttering threats at the Riverbed Bistro.

Last Thursday RCMP said they arrived at the restaurant in Keremeos around 6 p.m. after receiving a report of arson in progress. Const. Jennifer Holliday said witnessess advised RCMP that the owner of the restaurant Inderjit Chima had poured gasoline around the perimeter of the building threatening to set it on fire.

At the time of the incident the restaurant was open and there were customers inside as well as four apartments located on the upper floor of the building.

Police said two male employees intervened and Chima fled the scene on foot after assaulting a family member. Chima was pursued by RCMP who arrested him at his residence.

Const. Holliday said the only injuries were minor and were sustained by the victim of the assault. Chima was in court on Monday and is set to next appear on June 22.
