School District 67 Okanagan Skaha teacher has been reprimanded for making “inappropriate comments” to Grade 9 students on the girls’ basketball team.

Blair Christopher Haddrell told a female student “you are a good looking Grade 9” and “you can date anyone you want.” In another instance Haddrell told two female students who were going to a dance “you are good looking, guys will want to dance with you.”

According to the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation consent resolution agreement the comments were made during the 2014/2015 school year.

On March 9, 2015 Haddrell was issued a letter of discipline. As part of that letter. the district restricted Haddrell from volunteer coaching. Haddrell was able to  ask the district to review that decision on June 30, 2016.

Under the consent resolution agreement, Haddrell admitted the facts  set out in the document to be true, that he was committing professional misconduct and he will be reprimanded.

Haddrell had previously received a letter of expectation from the district that he “at all times conduct (himself) with students in a manner that respects both the boundaries of the professional relationship and the appropriate personal boundaries of the student, and ensures that (he) act reasonably to prevent student and parents misunderstandings of (his) actions.”

Haddrell was also required to take the B.C. Teachers Federation Boundaries Course, which he completed in May 2012.

The documents did not state at which schools any of these incidents took place.
