Development and housing construction in Summerland continued in 2020, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The municipality took in $399,304 in building permit fee revenue in 2020. This is a 10.4 per cent decrease from building permit fee revenues in 2019, when the municipality collected $445,982.

In the 2021 municipal budget, building permit revenues are estimated at $325,000 for the coming year.
The construction value from building permits issued in 2020 was $35,734,900, a drop of 22 per cent from 2019’s figures. However, 2019 was an exception and over the past 20 years, the average construction values in Summerland have been $28,683,844.
“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred in 2020, the building permit and development activity in the District of Summerland continues to be strong and is close to the growth that occurred in 2019,” a report from Brad Dollevoet, director of development services states.
“Staff’s perception is that these economic trends will continue as we move forward into 2021.”
