Monday was a busy one for Penticton RCMP, with several reports of property crime and an erratic driver of a truck stolen from Abbotsford that was involved in an attempted theft in Vernon.

At around 2:30 a.m., a vehicle was seen speeding and driving a jacked up Ford F-350 erratically through a construction zone in Peachland.

A truck matching the description was later seen at the Chevron on Eckhardt Avenue in Penticton, but after the driver saw police the truck took off at a high speed near the Riverside Starbucks area, driving over the boulevard.

The truck was later found abandoned near Coyote Cruises after taking out a pole and driving across a pedestrian bridge.

The truck, stolen from Abbotsford on Saturday, had received significant damage, according to police.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said the same truck was involved in an attempted theft and flight from police in Vernon Sunday night, though it’s unclear what the occupants were attempting to steal.

The matter is reportedly still under investigation.

Later Monday morning, police responded to four separate reports of unlawful entries and thefts, including at a South Main residence, where suspects reportedly entered through a window left open to allow a breeze flow.

While the residents slept, a wallet, a watch, change and a cell phone were taken.

At 9 a.m., police received a report that a garage was entered on Kingfisher Drive, and a wallet and keys stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

Two hours prior, a male and female were reportedly seen running from the yard with a large dog.

Less than an hour later, police got a report of a wallet holding identification and credit cards stolen from a Chevy Silverado parked at the Empire Motel.

Finally, a resident reported several tools and a kid’s bicycle stolen from an unlocked garage on Victoria Drive.

A 24-year-old man being held on another unspecified matter was found to be in possession of some of the items stolen from the garage.

He was charged with possession of stolen property.
