Two people were sent to hospital with minor burns after a small structure fire in Oliver.

Oliver firefighters called to a fire in a bedroom last night in a home at Road 18 and Hwy. 97, but found the blaze was extinguished before they arrived.

Rob Graham, public relations officer for Oliver Fire, said crews stayed on scene for about an hour to check for hot spots and clear the residence of smoke.

"I think it was mostly the mattress and box spring that had caught fire, so there was no major structural damage," said Graham.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

"They are looking into it, but we believe that it may have been from a cigarette," said Graham.

Two people were treated at the scene for burns, and transported to South Okanagan General Hospital.
