GARDNER

ALAN RICHARD

Alan Gardner passed away peacefully at Moog & Friends Hospice House on Monday, May 29, in his 86th year. He is lovingly remembered by his family – son Rick (Viv) Mohoruk, daughter Sandy (Willi) Perry, grandchildren Steve Grande, Brian (Karen) Mohoruk, Kim Grande, Carrie (Todd) Homenuk, Robbie (Jessica) Grande, Lori (Brendan) Michaud; eleven great-grandchildren, along with a large extended family and his many friends. Alan was predeceased by his son-in-law Robert Perry, brother Larry (Barbara) Gardner, sister Lois (George) Killick and niece Laurie Gardner.

The youngest child of Penticton pioneers Albert and Elsie Gardner, Alan was born in the farmhouse on Pineview Road in 1931. He spent his life continuing his family’s farming tradition, running both the home orchard on Pineview and Sunnybank Orchard on Valleyview; lands his parents and grandparents planted and began cultivating over a century ago. Alan was the last remaining Gardner of Gardner Court, which lies on the site of the Gardners’ home orchard.

He met Peggy, the love of his life, in 1976. They were married 6 months later and enjoyed a wonderful life together until Peggy’s passing in 2016. Alan always liked to say that he became a husband, father and grandfather with his first and only, “I Do.” In time he became a Grampa to six and Great Grampa to eleven. Alan was also a beloved uncle (Unc) to his brother’s and sister’s children, Larry, Geoff, Wendy, Charlie, Marian and Brian. They remember him fondly from the many summers they spent helping him in the orchard.

Fishing, camping and hockey were Alan’s passions. Many of his favourite times were spent enjoying the outdoors with Peggy and his family and friends. He told great stories, all drawn from his wealth of adventures. Alan was a long time Vees fan and ticket holder, and watched them in their recent run for the RBC Cup.

Alan will be missed by the many people who loved him. He was a gentleman and a gentle man.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1130 Carmi Avenue, Penticton. Reception tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moog & Friends Hospice House.
