Greg passed away peacefully in Penticton, B.C. on October 18, 2016, releasing him from his long suffering with Alzheimer’s. Greg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 12, 1945, following his twin, Jeff Disch, by mere minutes.

An adventurer and hard worker all his life, Greg did a stint in the U.S. Army and then began training as a well driller and crane operator. In 1982, he moved to Yukon Territory and started work for his favourite boss, Hector Lang, of Hector Lang Construction in Whitehorse. Greg also owned his own well drilling company Aqua IV Well Drilling while in Whitehorse. Among other adventures, he spent six months working in Antarctica as a crane operator, an experience of a lifetime.

Greg met Marion Woodward at the TD Bank in Whitehorse where Marion was a Commercial Lender in 1988. He loved to joke that she was simply unable to “decline” him! Marion and Greg eventually moved to Vancouver Island and Greg started his own business as the Canadian distributor of EZ Docks in Western Canada and the Yukon until early 2008 when he sold the business.

More than anything, Greg loved his time at the Birch Lake cabin the most, fishing and telling jokes with a beer in hand. His wonderfully quick sense of humour and great roaring laugh will never be forgotten by his many friends and extended family.

He leaves his devoted partner, Marion Woodward, his daughter, Carolyn (Stephanie) and grandkids Emma and Annabelle, his son, Eric (Melissa) and grandkids Kasey and Kelvin, and his former wife and mother of his children, Linda Stancer (Ron). Also his twin brother Jeff (Charlotte), brother Gary (Marie), and sister Nancy. Greg was preceded in death by his second wife, Francine Disch and his brother, Tom Disch.

Marion would like to thank the wonderful staff at Haven Hill Care Home for their competence and kindness to Greg during his final journey with Alzheimer’s. She would also like to thank her running buddies, Terri, Lesa and Val for making it possible for her to keep running during this difficult time in her life and to her very kind and caring neighbours in Twin Lakes, Dianne and Eric Knudsen and in Whitehorse, Susan and Gary Boyd, and in Minnesota, Jeff and Char Disch, for their love and support throughout this final journey. A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held at a later date.
