1934 - 2016

Passed away quietly on September 2, 2016

in the comfort of his home.

Gunter spent his adult life in the place he called a piece of paradise, Penticton. He arrived alone by boat from Germany in the summer of 1959. Finding work quickly, and then sending for his wife and children. A Canadian born child arrived, completing their dream family. He loved B.C. for the nature and beauty, he also enjoyed becoming involved in his community. He built friendships and provided for his family with his own business. A painter by trade, teaching his two sons well, they followed in his footsteps. Each of his children became their own business owners in their chosen fields. A more proud father you couldn’t find! His wife, always determined and focused, was instrumental in the family’s success. This couple, a devoted pair, had 61 years of wedded bliss together. They enjoyed their last evening together taking in the view of Okanagan Lake and reminiscing about the life they had created together. Gunter was a peaceful man, quiet spoken, but loved a good song. He not only will be missed by his family but also many whom he called friend.

He is survived by his first and only love, Elfriede; his children, Guenther (Sandy), Elfie (Gustav), Michael (Robert); his grandchildren, Gustav Jr. (Nadine), Janna (Christoph), Kelly and Kenny (Kirsten) and his great grandchildren, Jonas, Sydney and Lena.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St Ann’s Church at 1296 Main Street, Penticton. September 15th, 2016 at 11:00 am with Father Rex Velmonte officiating.
