(Irvin) Laurie Rockwell

April 1944 – March 2017

We are deeply saddened to announce Laurie’s sudden passing following a hard-fought, dignified battle with cancer.

Laurie was predeceased by his father, Melvin (“Rocky”) in 1983 and his mother, Evelyn in 1985. He is survived by his daughter Amber (Andrew) of Cambridge, England, by his daughter Jasmyne (Brian) of Vancouver and by his adored grandchildren. Also left to mourn are his sister (and BFF) Merrilee Ferne of Burnaby, brother Hale of Maple Ridge and nephew Kirk (Moira) and family of Burnaby, in addition to countless friends and relatives.

Laurie was proud of his 25-year career with the BC Ministry of Social Services at various postings throughout the province; he retired in 1997.

Laurie was an avid and dedicated birder, naturalist and environmentalist, and an active member of many volunteer organizations. In particular, he enjoyed his role as volunteer Ecological Reserve Warden of the Trout Creek Ecological Reserve for the past 25 years. He was always happy to share his knowledge (or a good pun!) and was known by all as a positive and enthusiastic member of the community. He will be greatly missed.

We would like to sincerely thank the many friends and relatives who added so much to his life and the healthcare professionals who cared for him so compassionately during his recent challenges. He was grateful for each and every one of you, as are we.

Namaste, Laurie
