Leonard Julien Xavier Joseph (Len)

August 24, 1930 – December 29, 2016

Born last in a large French Catholic family, Len lost his father before he knew him. From an early age he had big shoes to fill, with grown older siblings leaving the Rosthern, Saskatchewan farm and an adoring mother who had dreams for her handsome boy. By the time they moved to Needles, BC, a charming optimist was on his way.

Farmer, blaster (the youngest in BC), miner – his early life was full of adventure until he met and married a spirited beauty named Joan Hallstrom, who died in 2000. Together, they had four children: Brenda, Michelle (Ross), Paul (Tammy) and Mark (Mindy); nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. We miss him terribly.

As a family man, Len settled into the financial services industry where he soon entered upper management. He was dedicated to the Catholic Church. His belief in God’s plan was with him to the end, never doubting that the plan was for a full and happy life made richer by music, westerns and horseback excursions into country untouched by most humans. He had eclectic pleasures: singing, dancing, fishing, hunting, golf and playing cards. And, more than anything, family and friends.

Len loved people and they loved him back. His many interests brought wonderful people into his life and he would want to send you all a fond farewell. Yes, he’d want you to miss him just a little - but also to take comfort in knowing he lives on. Faith aside, his spirit is alive in those of us who love him and in our memories of a beautiful man and his beautiful life.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, January 7, 10:30 am St. John Vianney Church, 361 Wade Avenue W., Penticton
