Sarah (Sally) Jane

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Koponyas on June 13, 2016 after a valiant fight against caner. Sally was born on May 13, 1950 in Drumdollagh, Stranocum Country, Ireland and came to Canada when she was 12 years old. She lived in Toronto for eight years where who married and had two sons, Scott and Blair. Later in life she met Don in Mission, BC and they were married in May 1980. Sally leaves behind to celebrate her life her loving husband Don and her two sons Scott Bradley of Penticton and Blair Christopher and his partner Casandra of Hope, BC, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also, Don’s daughter Tana, son Wayne, and Don’s sister Darlene and her husband Bruce. Sally was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Margaret Stewart and her bother Robert Edward Stewart.

Sally helped start The Penticton Slo-Pitch League and was an executive member for many years. She was inducted into the Penticton Slo-Pitch Hall of Fame in January 2008. Sally has been a proud member of the Penticton Lions since 1991; she was the first female member and she became it’s first female president and also served on many committees. Sally joined the Northwest Elvis Festival Association and was on the executive board for 10 years. She was also involved with the Insurance Broker’s Association and ran their Rattlesnake Golf Tournament for 30 years. Sally loved camping, fishing, playing slo-pitch, her work and traveling to Mazatlan for the past 20 years.

A Celebration of Sally’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at noon at the Penticton Senors’ Drop-In Centre, 2965 South Main Street. No flowers please.
