Sheila Ings

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Sheila Ings on November 8, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 80.

She will be dearly missed by her 4 children, Pam (Ken), Tracy (Tom), Jacki (Brad) and Brad (Colleen).

She was a caring grandmother to Krista (Chris), Aaron (Whitney), Ashley (Eric), Tyler (Jessica), Courtney (Ryan) and Eddie and proud great grandmother to Zayden, Ahsoka, Jack and her 4th on the way.

Sheila was born on August 21, 1937 in Bury, Lancashire, England.  She immigrated to Canada at the age of 12 with her family.   After completing her schooling in Kelowna, she met and married her husband Jack, eventually settling in Penticton with their 4 children in 1964.

Mom was very involved with the Glengarry Figure Skating Club as well as Brownies and Guides.  She was an avid seamstress making hundreds of outfits, costumes, wedding and grad dresses for her kids and grandkids. After working as a telephone operator for many years, she found her true calling as a pre-school teacher at Playshare Preschool where she worked until her retirement.

She missed the little ones so much that she became a volunteer at the Community Centre childminding with her dear co-workers Mary and Sylvia.

Mom was predeceased by her brother Jack and sister Joan.  Surviving are sister Irene and brother Brewis.

The family would like to thank Dr. Clarke, Dr. Ross and the wonderful staff at PRH oncology clinic, Dr.  Watters, and palliative nurses Carrie and Rhonda for their unwavering compassion, care and support.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring 2018.
