Linking cycling communities

Following the success and importance of Bike to Work Week, or Go by Bike as it is now called, our communities are in great need of having a dedicated bike lane that stretches from Summerland to Penticton.

The section from Summerland’s lower town to Trout Creek already exists and is a huge asset to the area. We need to continue that link with a paved dedicated section from Trout Creek to Penticton. Not only will cyclists be safe riding on a separate lane from vehicles, but people will be more willing and motivated to be physically active and rely less on their vehicles for transportation. The potential conflict between vehicles and bicycles that exists on shared roads would be eliminated. There is the added economic benefit of attracting more destination cyclists to this area.

I urge the local levels of government to work together to get this vital bike link completed.
