Letter: More communication is needed

Resident towed after race course amended

More communication is needed I would like to add something in regards to the lack of communication.

We have lived on Lakeshore Drive going on four years now. We understand perfectly that road closures are common place in our area and it comes with the territory. That is why when we receive road closure notifications, we plan accordingly. The driveway backs onto Lakeshore Drive. If Lakeshore is scheduled to be closed, we relocate our vehicles so we are able to get to work. Such was the case Sunday evening /Monday morning. My significant other moved his vehicle onto Winnipeg Street because it was not included in the formal road closure notice. Low and behold, Monday morning when he went to go to work and his vehicle was nowhere to be found. The first 100 feet of Winnipeg was being utilized for the race course.

He was informed by a race traffic director that vehicles had been towed nearby. He searched for his vehicle and it was nowhere to be found. He was then informed that two different tow companies had been used: one towed locally and the other to their compound.

Unfortunately, his vehicle was at the impound. After $146 tow fee and a cab ride, he was then able to go to work.

After inquiring at city hall, he was directed to race headquarters. He was one of several vehicles towed that morning. They were most apologetic however they explained that the race course had been amended just days before the race to include that portion of Winnipeg Street. Unfortunately, they did not post notice, signage or cover parking meters to indicate restrictions. He was reimbursed his out of pocket costs and they did make it right, after the fact.

Maybe a bit more communication could have prevented a major inconvenience.
