LETTERS: Sensible decisions needed

Thank you councillors who voted to make the necessary repairs to the Adidas Sportsplex, even if they are temporary.

I was reading the article on the Adidas Sportsplex repair and costs (Penticton Western News, May 18, Bubble Band-Aid).

Thank you councillors who voted to make the necessary repairs, even if they are temporary. This facility is an absolute necessity to the public regardless what city hall senior staff thinks.

I am shocked at staff comments “we need to have less facilities, we cannot afford the ones we have now.”

Wow, this coming from city employees who wanted to spend (borrow) an additional $7 million on Lakeshore drive revitalization? Spending tax dollars on downtown etc., does this not appear that city management is more interested in a tourist/bling image than maintaining/improving public facilities for its citizens?

Does it not appear that the needs/recreation of its residents are last priority? What other parks and facilities are on the chopping block for future bling and commercial development projects? Why are citizens paying public employees that want reductions  in public facilities on their agenda? Is it not time to put the brakes on all the bling and focus on what is more important? Infrastructure, repairs and improvements which includes our public facilities.

What is your opinion? Bling or  public facilities in Penticton? Do you want to keep our sports fields, parks and recreation for our children, grandchildren and future generations? Yes? No?

The  thinking at city hall does not favor its citizens or greenspace. Does anyone have an extra LEGO set to donate to keep these thinkers occupied and away from our facilities and parks?
