Soaking up the profits

Re: Patricia Kushner’s letter (Western News March 25) about the proposed high fees for sidewalk café patios. She quoted John Vassilaki’s contention that a restaurateur makes $200 from two tables in two hours. This, he apparently knows, as “a fact.”

However, a fact he doesn’t mention is that eating places he operated must have had liquor licences to up the profits from food and non-alcoholic drinks. I doubt customers are allowed to (imbibe?) at our street level cafés.
