Vees win Tier 2 tournament
The Penticton Tier 2 midget Vees won their second tournament. Playing in Spokane, the Vees went 3-0 in round robin play with a 4-1 win over Kelowna Rockets, 9-0 against Treasure Valley from Boise Idaho and a 4-0 win over Lethbridge. They dumped Everett 9-0 in the semifinal then faced the Rockets against in the final, coming out on top 2-0. The Vees finished with 28 goals for and one against. Lawrence Langan and Brandon Locket earned two shut-outs.
Bantam Vees improve record
The Smile Enhancement bantam Tier 2 Vees improved their regular season unbeaten streak to four games with two wins last weekend. On Saturday, the Vees played one of their strongest games beating the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters 4-2. After losing the previous two games in Trail, the Vees had a lot to prove. The Vees came out hard, both offensively and defensively. The Vees were led by Josh Maser who scored two goals. Singles came from Michael MacLean and Reid Newson. Shane Farkas picked up the win in net. On Sunday Vees played the Okanagan Hockey Academy. After skating to a scoreless first period, the Vees exploded for six goals in the second period and won 11-1. Leading the Vees offensively was Jayden Doell, who scored once and added three assists. Raphael Bassot and Nathan Iannone scored twice and Lane French and Simon Snyman scored their first goals of the season. Other goals were scored by Michael MacLean, Reid Newson, Greg Brydon and Myles Thibodeau. Strong goaltending by Alyck Coombes with solid defensive play by Owen Haggerty, Daylan Devlin, Aiden Hutcheson and Nick Graham. The Vees are now 7-3-3 in Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey play. The Vees are off to Trail this weekend to play in a tournament.
Midget house action
In midget house action, wins against the Abbotsford Vipers and Kelowna Kings helped Penticton go 2-1 in pool play of the Salmon Arm. Penticton defeated host Salmon ARm Blackburn 3-2 then defeated the Kelowna Bruins 5-4 in a shootout after overtime solved nothing.
Men's rec hockey
In Penticton Men's Rec hockey league action, the Mule Broncos earned an 8-4 win against the Game Time Sports Wolverines. Taylor Cote scored twice, while Craig Schelter, Andrew Pond, Stuart Nisbet, Doug Leitner, Josh Seddon and Matt Krause rounded out the offense. Ryan Sjoberg, Reid Jackson, Aric Stickney and Chad Parenteau scored for the Wolverines. The Wolverines then lost by the same score to the EcoDry Ice Dogs. Mike Funk and Gord Henderson both netted hat tricks for the Ice Dogs. John McArthur and Nick Riep scored the other two goals. Scoring for the Wolverines were Chris Becker, Ryan MacMurchy, Nelson Bowman and Reid Jackson. The Bar One Argo Bison rolled over the Cawston Cold Storage Best Damn Wings 7-2 Kyle Fraser led the Bisons with two goals. Dan MacDonald scored both for the Wings.
