Timber Tour Series
Whistler Blackcomb will host the second of the B.C. Freestyle Timber Tour Series II/Super Youth Challenge Feb. 9 to 11 at Blackcomb Mountain. This event will feature three of freestyle’s skiing disciplines which are moguls, half pipe and slopestyle. This is the second competition of the season and one of two qualifying events for the Canadian junior nationals. There will be over 189 competitors ages six to 20 and up competing from Apex Freestyle Club, Whistler/Blackcomb Freestyle Club, Silver Star Freestyle Club, Big White Freestyle Club, Revelstoke Freestyle Club, Vancouver Freestyle Club, Mount Washington Freestyle Club, Kimberly Freestyle Club and the B.C. Provincial Freestyle Team. This is the largest number of competitors ever register for B.C. Freestyle event.
Minor hockey playoffs
Penticton Smile Enhancement bantam Tier 2 Vees begin their post-season action this weekend. After earning a second-place finish in league play and a bye in the first round of the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association playoffs, the Vees begin their best-of-three playoff round against Kamloops. First game takes place this Saturday at Memorial Arena at 2 p.m. The Vees play game two in Kamloops on Sunday. Game 3, if necessary, will be played the following weekend in Penticton.
Prefondo training
Registration for the 2013 Prefondo Training Ride is open. Be among the few to join Axel Merckx and guests in Penticton April 27 for a weekend of training and camaraderie. This free event is limited to only 200 cyclists. The Prefondo is a complimentary training ride that's open only to registered riders in the upcoming 2013 Valley First Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (VFGFAMO). New for this year's Prefondo, riders will depart on their choice of a 40-kilometre or a 90-km loop in smaller sized groups to ensure safety. An optional women's only group will also be available. Entry is based on a first-come first-serve basis. To secure your free spot in the Prefondo, follow these two steps: 1) Register now for the 2013 VFGFAMO. Choose either the Mediofondo (55 km), Cortofondo (92 km) or Granfondo (160 km) distance.
