A fifth-place finish for the KISU swim club at AAA provincials in Victoria was highlighted by Tyler Wall’s record-setting performances.

Wall, 14, broke three records in the 100-metre, 200-m backstroke and the 200 individual medley. All against competition a year older.

“I was excited,” said Wall. “I didn’t know I set them until they announced it. I was like ‘what?’

“I feel I performed the best I’ve ever performed.”

The previous record in the 100-m freestyle was 52.13 seconds and Wall bested it with 52.06. In the 200-m backstroke, the old mark was 2:04.52, which he topped at 2:03.39. In the 200IM, 2:07.54 was the previous record, which Wall topped at 2:07.31.

“They were great swims,” said KISU coach Tina Hoeben. “He was pretty impressive. It’s quite a significant achievement. It’s significant to me because they (previous record holders) are still in the system. I know them and they are fast.”

Throughout the weekend Hoeben said that Wall looked great in the water. Wall also won the 50-m freestyle and took second in the 100-m backstroke.

Also performing well for KISU was Acacia Benn, who earned silver in the 200-m backstroke. Benn and Wall have been selected for Team B.C. for Prospects West and will travel to Toronto to watch the Olympic trials.  Elijah Kliever earned silver in the 200-m backstroke and bronze in the 100-m backstroke. Sam Lasinski won gold in the 50-m fly, earned silver in the 100-m backstroke and bronze in the 200-m breaststroke and 50-m backstroke.

Jaren LeFranc  earned silver in the 100- and 200-m breast stroke and bronze in the 50-m breast stroke.

Ashley McMillan captured gold in the 400-m free, 50-m fly, 400m IM and 800-m freestyle; silver in 200m IM; bronze in 100-m freestyle and 50-m freestyle. Riley Wall won gold in the 100-m freestyle.
