MEND family program leads to healthy living

The MEND program is designed for families to learn to live a healthier lifestyle.

MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It.) has a few openings for families.

MEND is a free, fun and healthy lifestyle program.  MEND empowers children and families to become fitter and healthier. This program is fun and interactive and supports seven-to 13-year-old children and their families to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

At MEND, parents/caregivers join their children in each session to learn about how to choose healthier foods and spend more time being physically active. The twice-weekly sessions are a mix of family activities where participants see how small changes can make a big difference. There are practical demonstrations, games and tips about healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes. There are also fun physical activity sessions for the kids in a non-judgmental environment.

Participants and their family receive an achievement bonus like a Penticton recreation family pass at the successful end of their program.

The program is 10 weeks and takes place at Parkway Elementary School starting Jan. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. and is on Tuesday and Thursday.

MEND is not a referral program. Families who are interested in participating must contact the program directly at mend@penticton.ca to follow up.  All participants will need to be pre-registered to participate.
