Okanagan junior hockey player named to U-17 Team Canada

For the fifth consecutive year a Penticton Vee will be a member of Team Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quispamsis and Saint John, N.B.

Forward Cole Shepard, 16, who has played in all 12 B.C. Hockey Leagues for Penticton this season was one of 66 players selected for the three Canadian teams, Red, Black and White at the tournament Nov. 3 to 10.

From North Vancouver, the 5’10,’’ 152-pound forward is coming off a strong 2017/18 season with the Delta Academy Prep where he scored 19 goals and added 34 goals in 34 games.

Those stats put him sixth among 2002-born players in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. He has three assists so far this season.

Late last season Shepard announced his NCAA commitment to Harvard University.

Shepard joins other Vees previously selected, including Massimo Rizzo and Luke Reid (2017), Jonny Tychonick (2016), Griffin Mendel (2015) and Dante Fabbro and Tyson Jost (2014).
