Okanagan Wild makes Kelowna debut

Intermediate A lacrosse team, in its inaugural season, plays home game at Rutland Arena

The Okanagan Wild introduced Kelowna lacrosse fans to a new product on Sunday afternoon.

The Wild, the newest members of the B.C. Intermediate A Lacrosse League, played host to the Langley Thunder at Rutland Arena.

The Okanagan side kept the game within reach into the second period, then watched the defending champion Thunder pull away for a 22-9 victory.

Kelowna’s Josh Dubrett scored three times and added an assist for the host team, while Drew Bannister added two goals and two assists.

The Wild, consisting mostly of players from the Thompson Okanagan region, features two other Kelowna products, Zane Torres and Sam Adams.

Sunday’s game was the lone stop of the season in Kelowna for the Okanagan side, which will also play home games in Vernon, Penticton, Merritt and Kamloops.

The next home action for the Wild (1-6) is Saturday, May 27 in Kamloops, with a 4 p.m. start.
