Provincial golf finale a struggle for Pen High Lakers

The Penticton Secondary Lakers golf team season considered a success despite tough final in provincial championship

The Pen High Lakers golf team fell shy of its goal at the provincial championship at Ledgeview Golf and Country Club in Abbotsford Wednesday.

Hoping for a top-10 finish, Lakers coach Gord Barnes said he expected the group to finish near 15th place among the 23-teams, but final standings have not been determined.

“We had a decent opening day team score of 321,” said Barnes.

The Lakers were led by Declan Riddle’s six over par 76, while Jordan Simpson scored 81, Jackson Coates 82, Cam Davie 82, and Cam Gunning 84. On the final day, Simpson was the lone person to score better, with a 10 over par 80. Riddle finished with 89, Coates 87 and  Davie and Gunning 89 for 345 total.

Barnes still considers the season a success with their first Valley Championship in 20 years.
