A 5-1 win against the Chilliwack Chiefs helped the Penticton Vees tie the Canadian Junior Hockey League record with 40 consecutive wins Saturday.
The Vees were led by two-goal efforts by Travis St. Denis and Curtis Loik. St. Denis was named the first star, while Loik earned second star honours, as he added an assist to his totals. St. Denis redirected a high shot 1:22 into the second period and the tally proved to be the winner. Ryan Reilly scored the other Vees goal. His 30th of the season was the result of hard work behind the net by Loik, who put the puck on net on a wraparound attempt. Reilly deposited the puck after Wade Murphy could not chip the puck past Bryton Udy. Vees goalie Chad Katunar was the third star as he made 22 saves for the win. As the clock ticked down to the Vees 40th straight win, the crowd of 2,579 stood and cheered in appreciation of what the Vees accomplished.
